All photos © Dulwich Picture Gallery This month, the Dulwich Picture Gallery are hosting MayFest – a fabulous vintage weekender which features viewings of the Eric Ravilious exhibition, free swing dancing, shopping and screenings of Rear Window and The 39 Steps among all sorts of other activities. As you all know, we love a good vintage film and night out, so we’ve teamed up with the Gallery to give away a pair of tickets to the Saturday 16th May evening, with entry into the Ravilious exhibition and the film. It’s the “first major exhibition to survey watercolours by celebrated British artist Eric Ravilious (1903-42). Well known for his...

The Vintage Mafia x Prohibition #2

This September, join us and the good people of The Prohibition Party on Saturday 6th September, London’s most riotous celebration of 20s opulence as we once again host a very small, dirty, decadent and totally ‘secret’ (ish) Speakeasy within a speakeasy. Last time was just the bees knees as these pictures by Hanson show. [Show as slideshow] ...

La Traviata at Soho Theatre

A few weeks ago, we put on our 1920s best for a very special Vintage Mafia x Prohibition, which we really need to write a blog about. And we will. But while we’re on the subject of 1920s, here’s something a little bit special. Next Friday, August 8th, there is a rather fabulous event at the Soho Theatre – a performance of their new production of La Traviata set in the 1920s underworld with a special 1920s soirée! Following the success of La bohème and Don Giovanni, Olivier Award-winning company OperaUpClose and director/translator Robin Norton-Hale return to Soho Theatre with their new English version of La traviata. The story of Violetta, a...

Angels & devils

Last month was a crazy one. Not only did we programme an amazing village fete at the Royal Academy of Arts, but we put on a secret Ric Rac Club at Prohibition. Before we (finally) share the photos from what was an amazing night, check out what we got up to beforehand! The kind people at Angels Fancy Dress let us run riot in their Shaftsbury Avenue store, and even more kindly, let us borrow some outfits so we looked like real 1920s ladies – with a slightly sleazy, ‘lady of the night’ feel. Jeni’s chap Hanson Leatherby took these photos of us trying some things on, a couple of which were most definitely not 1920s… but it was like being in a...

Vintage Mafia x Prohibition

Apologies for the late notice of this rather exciting event announcement, but it’s been all systems go at the metaphorical VM Towers. Last weekend we curated the courtyard at the Royal Academy’s Midsummer Night’s Fete and next weekend, we are hosting a secret Ric Rac Club, deep in the bowels of the Bloomsbury Ballroom for Prohibition. Imagine, as a glamorous 1920s party fills the Art Deco ballroom’s main rooms, that a couple of corridors away, tucked into what used to be an old kitchen, a dark and sleazier affair is unfolding. Guests in the know approach the side entrance, speaking the passwords, ‘I’m a member of the Temperance...
